Chinese demand fuels surge in Australian beef exports amid global trade uncertainties

I joined Roger Maynard on CNA News earlier this week to discuss the recent spike in Chinese imports of Australian beef. The spike comes as China’s beef imports from the U.S. have been disrupted due to Trump’s tariffs.

The U.S.-China trade uncertainty opens a US$2.5 billion gap which Australian farmers are taking advantage of – with exports to China already up by 40 per cent this year. 2025 is set to be the biggest year on record for the Australian cattle industry with China likely to source any shortfall as a result of U.S. tariffs. However, if volumes cannot meet demand, prices for beef could increase.
