Ausbiz – 100 days of Trump

I joined Juliette Saly on Ausbiz to discuss the first 100 days of the Trump administration, which has been marked by controversial executive orders, mass deportations, ‘January 6’ pardons, and of course – tariffs.

Economically, we see fears of stagflation loom (with Goldman Sachs forecasting minimal GDP growth or even a mild recession), a 19 per cent S&P drop, rising inflation expectations, falling consumer confidence, and small business strain.

Although Australia tends to focus on the negative headlines, there are some silver linings beginning to present themselves. Most of the severe tariff impacts are likely in the past – with future implementations likely to be more structured which would allow companies and consumers to plan more effectively. Shedding uncertainty could also lead to stabilising markets and increased investor confidence.
