ABC Newcastle Mornings – reporting season preview

This morning on ABC Mornings with Paul Turton, we discussed the upcoming corporate reporting season and what it might reveal about Australia’s economic health. I noted that while markets have been strong so far this year – led by banks and tech – investors will be closely watching whether earnings justify this optimism. In the retail sector, shifting consumer behaviour is evident, with spending recalibrated toward private label goods and fewer big-ticket purchases, signalling caution amid cost-of-living pressures. We also touched on how online sales now dominate retail strategy, while bricks-and-mortar still serve a role. Importantly, I emphasised that this reporting season will test the credibility of company outlooks more than the numbers themselves.
